Book review: Literature : Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell

Recommended: Young adults adults and over
Gaskell’s incomplete novel, a beautiful romance novel . It details the growing and life of Molly Gibson and her widowed father Mr. Gibson a doctor and his remarriage. Her interactions with aristocratic families like Squire Hamley and Lord and Lady Cumnor. The novel beautifully portrays human reactions and actions realistically without villifying and extremely being saccharine that’s what makes this book real. The social norms and expectations of the time. We also find through a lot of twists how Molly finds her own happy ever after . The book deals with how does a new wife feel and how she competes for her husbands affections. How does the daughter feel about her fathers new wife when she is not his sole affection. How does the husband now see this bond between his wife and daughter.
