Commandments interpreted for the 21st century – Part 2

So we continue this week from where we left ,at Commandment 6.
6.Thou Shalt not kill:
Ex 20 :13 “You shall not murder.

Jesus interpretation of this commandment was that anger and angry words were as bad as murder.A friend once made an unique quote “we murder relationships with anger”.
Mathew 5:21,22b
21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’
22a But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister
will be subject to judgment.
Mom Commandment: Mom,May we careful of the words we utter and to speak only those that build people.
7.Thou shalt not commit adultery
Ex 20 :14 “You shall not commit adultery.
Jesus interpretation of this commandment makes it very clear that to even look at a person lustily is to commit adultery.
The 10 commandments are so like a safety net, having our best interests at heart. The commandment starts at the eyes even before it reaches into a full fledged sin of the body.
Mathew 5:27,28
27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Guard my eyes lord, from what and whom I see.May my eyes be a pure sacrifice for you.
Mom Commandment: Mom may we guard our eyes,May our eyes be a pure sacrifice to our lord.
8.Thou shalt not steal
Ex 20 :15 “You shall not steal.

Recently I came across a very interesting interpretation of this commandment. And I thought it made a lot of sense.
We steal from our employer when we waste our time chatting away.
We steal from our customers if we give them an inferior product.
We steal from god when we don’t use our time wisely.
Interesting isn’t it!
Mom Commandment: Mom,may we not steal time from god,and be good stewards to those and to what has been entrusted to us.
9.Thou shalt not false testify
Ex 20 :16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Have you considered ,that we murder reputations when we lie/gossip or about our neighbor?
Mom Commandment: Mom may we never lie/gossip about our neighbor. And may we be a blessing by our silence .
10.Thou shalt not covet.
Ex 20 :17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

We all fall prey to this, yes we love what our neighbor has, that house, that car, that job.We forget to see how richly we ourselves have been blessed.Pray for a thankful heart.A thankful heart has less time to focus on another’s blessing!

Mom Commandment: May we only focus on our blessings, that help us to have a thankful heart.
Blessings!
