If you were to read only one other book apart from the bible then this is the book. A book I’ve read thrice and I cant commend it enough.
This is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan in 1678. This is one of the most significant theological fiction in English literature. It has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print.
The protagonist, Christian, is an everyman character, and the story centres on his journey from his hometown, the “City of Destruction” (“this world”), to the “Celestial City” (“that which is to come” which is Heaven) . Christian is weighed down by a great burden that is the knowledge of his sin—which he comes to understand from reading “the book in his hand” (the Bible). This burden, which would causes him to seek deliverance. And how he is directed and the people he meets and the trials he meets are what forms the plot of this story.
Every Christian in every age group and every walk of life and every cultural setting or background will be able to relate this life and journey on this earth with our protagonist Christian and that’s why this is a timeless book.
