Bacon Roasted Turkey
I got a small bird for our small family.With a lot of help from my other mom and the Internet I combined the many approaches and got one satisfying roasted bird.
Whole Turkey – 8 Lbs
Turkey Brine Ingredients– Indian Style:(You may need only half of this mixture)
1 1/2 Orange Quartered
1 1/2 Lemon Quartered
1/2 tsp Pepper Corns
3/4 tsp Cumin seeds
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
1/4 tsp Indian Chili Powder
4 Garlic Cloves
2 sprigs Thyme
2 Sprigs Rosemary
13 cups of Water
Turkey Roasting Seasoning Ingredients:
1 tsp salt
1 tsp crushed pepper
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Thyme
1/4 cup of butter melted
Bird Aromatics Ingredients:
1 onions 8 quartered
1/2 orange quartered
1/2 Lemon quartered
1 celery stalk cut into 1 inch pieces
1 carrot cut into 1 inch pieces
2 Sprigs of Thyme
1>Add all the brining ingredients to a plastic container and mix well.
2>Now wash the turkey thoroughly in cold water and set aside the giblets and neck for later use.
3>Submerge the turkey fully in the brining liquid for 4 to 24 hours.And place it in the refrigerator.Covering the container with a cover or a cling wrap.
4>I left mine for 15 hours.
5>If your turkey doesn’t fully submerge and you have a smaller container.Half way through turn the bird over .
Roasting Seasoning Procedure:
Combine the roasting seasoning in a bowl
1>Wash the turkey Thoroughly and pat with towels until it is dry.
2>Rub the melted butter all over and inside the cavity of the bird.
3>Rub the Turkey Roasting seasoning all over and inside the cavity of the bird.
4>Fill the bird’s cavity with the aromatics.
5>And tie the wings,the legs of the bird and closing the cavity of the bird with a string.
6>Place it breast side down and Line the turkey with bacon strips.
7>And cover the turkey pan with an aluminum foil tent.
8>Place it inside a 325 degree Preheated oven
9>And cook according to instruction.
I cooked my 8 pounder for 3 hours.
